BAHAMAS BOUND: PA Player Scores PokerStars Platinum at Live! Casino Philadelphia

The list of American Platinum winners continues to grow. Rishya Iyer scored the massive Pennsylvania.
The 24-year-old poker player, a Philadelphia resident, earned $5,840 and the highly sought-after . The win now awards her a complete tournament and travel package for the PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC). The $25,000 buy-in event is set for January and the is valued at $30,000.
“I’m a regular here at Live! so I’m always checking for events and I saw there was a ladies event and I thought I can’t miss this, I have to play it,” Iyer said after the win. “I try to play the big tournaments now and then, but I don’t study them as much and I don’t have that much experience at all, so it was kind of tough, but it’s always fun.
Road to a PokerStars Platinum
The win for Iyer comes after online poker players. The company recently added both live Road to PSPC and online poker qualifying opportunities. Several players have now locked up es and a trip to the Bahamas.
In the $200 women’s event, Iyer topped a field of 120 players that produced a prize pool of $19,800. Normally a cash game player, she learned how to play poker in home games while in college. Her boyfriend later helped Iyer with her skills and she began taking the game more seriously.
The women’s-only event seemed like a perfect fit for Iyer and she hopes to shine at the PSPC.
“I think doing more events like these and just ing women when you see them play and giving more recognition for women in poker, is always great,” she said. “I’m excited to play a $25,000 tournament, to play that big of a tournament is what I’m most excited for.”
