PokerStars Announces First Series for MI/NJ Market With PSPC Online; Series Also Coming to Players in PA
The shared PokerStars market of Michigan and New Jersey went live on Jan. 1 and the company is soon launching the platform’s first combined tournament series.
The festival will also be PokerStars’ largest-ever online tournament series in the US. The PSPC Online (PokerStars Players Championship) runs Jan. 13–30 with 85 events and $2.5 million guaranteed.
Online poker players in Pennsylvania will also find 72 events with $1.5 million guaranteed.
“It was brilliant to see our communities in Michigan and New Jersey come out in force on Jan. 1 to celebrate the combining of our player pool and enjoy our special New Year’s Day events and smash the guarantees,” PokerStars US managing director Severin Rasset said in a news release.
“We’re now excited to bring players our first multi-state online series and our largest online series to date in the US, where players have the chance to in the Bahamian fun of the PSPC and play alongside their favorite players as they battle it out on the online tables. There’s plenty more to come for the New Jersey community and we look forward to exciting and rewarding our players in 2023 and beyond.”
Details on PokerStars PSPC Online
The new series takes inspiration from the $25,000 buy-in live PSPC event in the Bahamas, which takes place from Jan. 30 – Feb. 30. Stars has awarded numerous Platinum es for the event over the last year.
In the online version, the Main Event features a more modest $250 buy-in, but awards a sizable $300,000 guarantee. Players will also find a $50 Mini Main Event featuring a $75,000 guarantee.
Another option is the $2,500 High Roller Main Event with a $125,000 guaranteed prize pool. The three main events offer a combined $500,000 in Michigan and New Jersey and all tournaments get underway on Jan. 29.
Pennsylvania players can expect a $250 Main Event with $150,000 guaranteed. That tournament also kicks off on Jan. 29.
Events for all bankrolls
Players of all levels will find events to fit their budgets in the PSPC Online, with buy-ins as low as $10. Satellites also start at just $1. Players can win Main Event seats via special $2.50 Spin and Go’s as well.
The combined market offers poker fans more choice, more tournaments, more players, and bigger prizes for the two states. To celebrate the launch and to ring in the New Year, players were treated to two special tournaments: a $100 buy-in event with $100,000 guaranteed and a $10 buy-in tournament with $50,000 guaranteed.
Both events topped their guarantees with the $100,000 event more than doubling its d prize pool. The $50,000 event produced a $58,000 prize pool.
Players in New Jersey and Michigan spoke with USPoker earlier this week about how things went on Day 1. Most were pleased with the debut and enjoyed seeing new players and larger prize pools.
“I enjoyed it,” New Jersey’s Pierre Diessler said. “I’m happy it all went off without an issue as far as I know. Hoping that this continues and other sites jump on. Bigger fields obviously bring bigger prize pools, which is nice. PokerStars still needs to tweak a few things with the structures and it would be great.”
